About me:

Hi my name is Heather Schutt and I was born on May 26, 2007. When I was 4 months old,I was hospitalized and diagnosed with ONH, an under-active pituitary, and a seizure disorder. I'm taking replacement hormones daily to make up for the hormones my pituitary doesn't make and also seizure medication. However, there is no medication for ONH.

ONH is short for Optic-Nerve Hypoplasia. I've had this condition since birth. It is a condition in which the optic nerves fail to develop like they normally would. Thus leaving me with very little sight. My doctors tell us there is nothing that can be done except pray for my sight to improve. But, there is a treatment.

This treatment is in China only because our FDA will not approve the treatment for use in the USA. The treatment uses umbilical cord stem cells and growth factors to promote the growth of the optic nerves to a point where I may be able to see objects. At this time, my doctors tell us I can see light. But they are unsure how much I am actually able to pick up. My parents believe that I can see large objects or the outline/shadow of them.

The fundraisers that my family is planning and donations will help raise the money to make the trip to China and get me the treatment. The treatment will cost at least $40,000. This includes my treatment, my stay, and my mommy and daddy to come with me.
